There are a lot of reasons to visit Sparkling Hill in Vernon.
The scenic location, the food, the zen-like adults-only setting (sorry, kids), as well as our world-class spa amenities make this BC resort a true oasis.
People with recurring body pain or high stress levels enjoy the unique variety of European-inspired wellness services we provide. Many visitors book a getaway at our resort to try something they’ve never done before.
The spa amenity currently generating the most interest amongst our guests is the cold sauna/cryo chamber. If you’ve never experienced the rejuvenating effects of cold therapy, you’re in for a refreshing total body treat.
What’s Involved in Using a Cold Sauna?
Up to 4 guests at a time are permitted to step into our cryo chamber. Each visit lasts a total of 3 minutes and is supervised by a member of our staff. Inside, you will experience conditions of -110°C (-166°F) as you remain.
That temperature may sound extreme, but it’s surprisingly mild on the skin. You enter wearing only a bathing suit, socks, and shoes (we provide the gloves, facemask, and headband for added comfort). Without any air current or moisture, the normal freezing sensation you might expect is greatly diminished.
What Happens Inside?
Many people accustomed to freezing winters will barely perceive the cold. Others may report tingly fingers and legs. Some people will feel the need to shuffle about as the cold takes effect.
Inside the chamber, you will consume twice the amount of oxygen you normally do, improving blood circulation. The freezing process also stimulates your central nervous system for reenergizing the entire body.
What Happens When You Step Out?
When you step outside after a cold sauna, it’s natural to experience some temporary shivering and a rosy hue in your cheeks. You’ll be tempted to jump into a warm shower immediately; however, your body needs time to adjust to its normal temperature naturally.
Guests will stretch out on the nearby spa furnishings to allow their bodies to warm up again. At Sparkling Hill, you will always have an impressive panoramic view outside to keep you distracted as you rest.
The cold sauna process is a physically exhilarating experience that will leave you feeling invigorated and in a good mood for the rest of the day.
Who Uses Cold Saunas?
Those 3 minutes are the equivalent of taking a 20-minute ice bath, just like the ones professional athletes use for dealing with body pain.
Trust us; a cold sauna is a quicker, more enjoyable process.
Celebrities, including Alicia Keys, Demi Moore, Mark Wahlberg, Hugh Jackman, and Daniel Craig, have all reportedly used cryo chambers. Many athletes are updating their cold therapy approach.
Whether you’re looking for a way to deal with post-game soreness like LeBron James, or you’re curious to experience the same treatment as James Bond, Sparkling Hill’s cold sauna is a unique service to try.
People have turned to cold therapy to help relieve the symptoms associated with a number of conditions:
- Different forms of arthritis
- Fibromyalgia
- Chronic pain
- Psoriasis
- Sleeping disorders
- Multiple Sclerosis
And more.
Our staff will ask you to complete a brief health questionnaire before entry. Certain medical conditions may preclude your participation.
